Millenia Motion Pictures
Years of Working Experience:
What did you want to be when you were young?
I wanted to be a lawyer, a photojournalist and someone who does some out of ordinary. I love doing what others don’t
Why do you do what you do?
The movies and books made it seem as though being a lawyer was a great thing. I wanted to work in the International Court of Justice.
As for the photojournalist, I was in the media club while in secondary school. I always loved this idea of “capturing moments”. I have had cameras of all generation. I thought I could show the world to people through my words. If not for people like Carl Mydans, we would have never known the true ruins of World War 2, right? It is one of those professions that money cannot compensate truly.
What is your profession now?
I am a marketer. I am studying M.Sc in Marketing & Consumer Insights to gain more understanding in this field. I recently joined Millenia Motion Pictures – a media production house based in Singapore, to head their marketing.
What led you here? How did you discover your passion?
After graduating from SMU with B.Sc Information Systems Management majoring in law, I started work at a local law firm. I rose quickly to head their entire operations within a couple of years. I was exposed to marketing. My immediate bosses Mr Bazul Ashhab and Mr Kelly Yap recognised my interest in this area. They gave me opportunities to be part of the Firm’s marketing. I gained on the job experience that made me more interested. I also had the opportunity to work with Mr Nicholas Lum on marketing to the China market. All these made me realise that Marketing was the job I would wake up for.
How did you realise this work you do is something you are good at and that the market will benefit from your product/service?
I stepped out of a good job and good salary to start my marketing agency. After much struggle (while also handling the family with small children), I realised my skills in this area. Clients started to note me for my content marketing and social media skills. This was a growing area.
Would you say this job is something you pursue as a part of your passion?
It is a job I would wake up for and would put my 200% in.
What do you love most about your job?
Definitely social media. I love studying hashtag trends and how people behave online.
What motivates you?
Praises and good comments
Have you identified your ‘life purpose’? If yes, how did you do so?
Yes. I need to put all that marketing skills for a better cause – something that will help the society at large.
What is an ideal lifestyle that you want to live? Describe it
My day is stretched most of the times. My full-time job, my family (I have 2 children aged 8 and 6), my social work and now my course. It would be ideal if I can get more “me” time during which I can read my novels (the booklist is getting longer!). I also want to have the opportunity stay in different countries for a few months each year – experience different people and environment.
What is the next big milestone for you in your life?
To be able to meet my goals set for Millenia Motion Pictures.
Get my peace message to more people until it shows some signs of impact.
Be better at teaching my kids’ Mathematics and Tamil.
