I’ve always been amazed at the power of three. It’s easy to remember, versatile in terms of its usage and can be communicated quickly and easily.
The power of three is used in photographs; while planning speeches and while doing Mind Maps and much more things. Recently I was having a chat with my friend who had some problems expressing what she does. She’s also a life coach and has specific interests in helping those who have gone through pain, come to terms with it and overcome it.
Initially, when we were speaking, it felt like she was doing everything and it felt all over the place but as soon as we thought of three things she focuses on, we came up with this
It took us some time and a lot of back and forth to get here but once we did, insights started pouring in! if you observe carefully, these three takeaways can be slotted into another category as well!
- Past – Depression
- Present – Control
- Future – Anxiety
If you think about it, any problem we have falls under the three categories of time. Either you are stuck with problems in the past, present or about the future.
When you are thinking about the past, it’s about regrets, what if’s and mourning.
When you are struggling with day to day problems, it is because you are unable to control your present the way you would like to and lack control in your life.
When you think about the future, it is always anxiety on what would or could happen.
It’s scary how fear can attack us in three different ways with a different guise.
Now that all that information has been filtered into a power of three, automatically, everything seems clearer than before. It is way easier for others to understand and remember what my friend does.
And when that happens, people find it easier to refer you to friends that they know needs your expertise.
Think about how you can apply the ‘power of three’ to what you do.
What are your top three values?
What are your top three hobbies?
What are your top three subjects?
What are your top three desires?
What are your top three holiday destinations?
What are your top three value propositions to your project/product/program?
What are the top three things you can share about yourself on a social media profile?
What are the top three things you would introduce about yourself that will make you seem like an interesting person?
Keep going with questions based on the top three and you will realise, you have an accurate snapshot of your life that has been simplified to its essence. A complete 80/20 on what you do.
Do this and you will definitely get clarity. If you don’t, I know just the right person to put you in touch with 🙂
